GROUNDBREAKING LIVESTREAM MUSICAL MOVEMENT
THESE FEMALE ARTISTS WILL JOIN THE LINEUP WITH THE
PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED IVY QUEEN, CHESCA AND GOYO
Urban Divas United presented by Neutrogena® announced additional female artists joining its stellar lineup. This live virtual event bringing together Latina acts taking the Latin urban music industry by storm, will be livestreamed for fans worldwide from an undisclosed location in Downtown Miami on Saturday, April 10 at 7:00 PM EST. Fans can register free to charge via www.UrbanDivasUnited.com.
Last week, the participation of the legendary queen of reggaeton, Ivy Queen, along with Chesca and Goyo was announced. Today, additional talented artists were added to the lineup, including Spanish singer-songwriter Natalia Jiménez, Puerto Rican rapper Nesi, who is the female voice of the hit song “Yo Perreo Sola” by Bad Bunny, and Latinx American rapper Snow Tha Product. Also, the event will be hosted by the famous presenter, Gaby Espino. With six female singers confirmed to grace the stage, and several more to be announced, Urban Divas United presented by Neutrogena® honors its commitment to promoting a predominantly female-led lineup.
“It’s an honor to be part of Urban Divas United presented by Neutrogena®, especially as we celebrate the artist who paved the path for many of us in the urban genre, [Ivy Queen]. As a Puerto Rican, just like Ivy, I am proud to represent our island, as well as all women with dreams of succeeding, no matter the obstacles. Let’s go my queens!”, said Chesca, who was announced last week.
The Spanish singer-songwriter Natalia Jiménez is also excited to join the lineup, “Being a woman in the music industry is very difficult and there are many obstacles we’ve had to overcome. However, we have fought to earn a place in Latin music, and I hope that the next step is equality in all areas. Thank you to Urban Divas United for the invitation. An event like this, led by women, was definitely needed!”
To bring awareness to the current plights affecting women and our community as a whole, Urban Divas United presented by Neutrogena® will join forces with Conciencia Collective. Together, they’ll facilitate resources to inform and educate peers, artists and influencers, ultimately driving change against the racial and social injustices prevalent in the community today. This event is also in collaboration with the Miami Downtown Development Authority (DDA), an agency committed to marketing Downtown Miami around the world, supporting local businesses, and improving the quality of life for the nearly 100,000 residents in the city’s urban core.
“Miami has always been an international melting pot, and today our urban core is a hub for arts and entertainment,” said Miami DDA Executive Director Christina Crespi. “When approached with the idea of having some of the most iconic Latina acts put on a show, we couldn’t think of a better place to host this virtual event than downtown Miami."
Fans must register by April 10 to enjoy the free virtual concert. For a minimum purchase, they can also register for the exclusive VIP Backstage Access for the opportunity to virtually shadow their favorite artists as they get ready for their big performances and chat one on one before they hit the stage. FIRST LOOK AT PALM BEACH DRAMAWORKS/ACTOR'S PLAYHOUSE
Coproduction of The Belle of Amherst
Streaming Online April 2-6
RESERVE TICKETS HERE
For the first time in over a year, Palm Beach Dramaworks is in rehearsal for a production on its mainstage. The play is William Luce’s The Belle of Amherst, a one-woman show based on the life of poet Emily Dickinson, which PBD is co-producing with Actors’ Playhouse. Admittedly, the theatre has not yet reopened – the show, starring Margery Lowe and directed by PBD Producing Artistic Director William Hayes – will be filmed without the presence of an audience, and streamed online from April 2-6. But it’s the first step on the journey back to live theatre.
“It’s a big deal for us, and very exciting,” said Managing Director Sue Ellen Beryl. “To see our rehearsal space, our costume shop, our scenic shop, and our mainstage alive with activity is really quite moving. We exist to put on shows for a live audience. Although we can’t do that right now, watching The Belle of Amherst come to life gives us a sense of normalcy and reminds us that there are better days ahead. Of course, ‘normalcy’ is relative, as we’re following stringent safety rules and procedures required by Actors’ Equity Association. And when we finally do open our doors to the public, we will continue to maintain strict safety protocols.”
In order to get the green light to produce The Belle of Amherst, PBD spent thousands of dollars to purchase special union-approved filters that will purify the air in the theatre. Everyone involved in the production wears a mask (or two), practices social distancing, and is regularly tested for covid-19. There are even designated bathrooms. Cleaning practices and products follow CDC guidelines.
When the 2021-2022 season begins, PBD will adhere to the most advanced and comprehensive sanitation practices available, in order to comply with new safety guidelines. The company will have installed a new HVAC system and upgraded its facilities and ticketing procedures to allow for as much of a touch-free patron experience as possible.
Reopening is scheduled for October. The season will be announced in the coming weeks, but here’s a teaser: The second production will be the world premiere of Michael McKeever’s much-anticipated The People Downstairs, commissioned by PBD and developed by The Dramaworkshop. The play, about the people who hid and took care of Anne Frank and seven others during the Holocaust, has received two public readings: It was first done during the 2020 New Year/New Plays Festival, and received a second reading on Zoom in June.
PBD has been extremely active online since the theatre shut down on March 16, 2020. Just over a month later, on April 27, the company did its first Drama(in the)works play reading via Zoom, and it’s anticipated that through the end of August 2021, PBD will have offered more than 100 virtual programs. With the exception of The Belle of Amherst, all online content has been free of charge.
Tickets to The Belle of Amherst are $30, and all proceeds benefit PBD and Actors' Playhouse, supplying much-needed revenue at a time when the theatres are earning no income. Once a ticket is purchased, the play can be viewed at the ticket holder’s convenience any time from April 2-6. As a thank you to those who subscribed to the 2020-2021 season of either company and did not ask for a refund, rolling over their subscription to the 2021-2022 season, tickets are free.
Anyone uncertain as to whether they’re subscribed to the upcoming season of PBD or Actors’ Playhouse, or wishes to subscribe now to receive a free ticket to The Belle of Amherst, should call PBD’s box office at (561) 514-4042 x2, or Actors’ Playhouse box office at (305) 444-9293.
For technical reasons, tickets can be purchased only through PBD’s website: www.palmbeachdramaworks.org or box office: (561) 514-4042-Ext2.
Palm Beach Dramaworks is a professional, nonprofit theatre company founded in 2000 and located in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach. Each season, the award-winning company produces five mainstage shows and offers a wide variety of programs for students at the theatre, in schools, and online. Committed to fostering the future of theatre, PBD has become a hub for playwrights in Florida and around the country to nurture their work through initiatives including Drama(in the)works and the annual New Year/New Plays Festival. PBD is a member of Theatre Communications Group, Florida Professional Theatres Association, and the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County. www.palmbeachdramaworks.org

ROB RUSSELL RETURNS!
SINGER/SHOWMAN ANNOUNCES FIRST LIVE CONCERTS SINCE SURVIVING DOUBLE HEART SURGERY IN DECEMBER
Pelican Café in Lake Park – April 21
Palm Beach International Jazz Festival – April 24
After surviving major double heart surgery, Palm Beach County’s favorite Master Showman Rob Russell today announced his first two “live, live, live” concerts since “dying twice on the operating table” last December in the Cardiac ICU at JFK Medical Center.
From his years as the polished front man at the distinguished Governor’s Club at Phillips Point to his neatly two decades as producer and emcee of the world famous Royal Room Cabaret at The Colony Hotel, Palm Beach, to his recent years as a singer, recording artist, and—after graduating top in his class at the Connecticut School of Broadcasting—Dick Robinson’s fill-in tune-spinner on Legends Radio 100.3 FM, Russell has amassed numerous fans of his audience-wowing musical talents and flashy show biz anecdotes. He will be sharing both again at his first two post-surgery performances:
Wednesday, April 21 at 6:30
Accompanied on piano by Kim Forman, who studied with Jazz Legend Marian McPartland, Russell returns for his much anticipated weekly engagements, offering songs and stories and a lot of laughs at the cozy indoor/outdoor Italian restaurant that describes itself as where “Nantucket Meets the Florida Keys,” under the skillful directions of husband-and-wife owners Mark Frangione and Karen Howe. “In addition to offering fabulous live music four nights a week, they have amazing food, too,” promises the singer. Pelican Café is located at 612 US-1 in Lake Park, FL 33403. For reservations, please call 561-842-7272
Saturday, April 24 at 2 pm
Palm Beach International Jazz Festival 2021
Kravis Center’s Rinker Playhouse
Russell will be the opening act for the third annual Palm Beach International Jazz Festival, appearing along with the Amazing MusicWomen Jazz Ensemble and headliner Jesse Jones, Jr. At this joint celebration of UNESCO’s International Jazz Day and a grand celebration of “the Great American Genre of Jazz,” Russell will perform songs from his first CD, the appropriately named Hello Again, share a few celebrity stories and tributes, and may even welcome a few special guests.
For tickets, call the Kravis Center Box Office at 561-832-7469, Monday-Friday 10 am to 2 pm; or visit the official website at www.kravis.org.
In preparing for his first two public performances since heart surgery, Russell has started writing his first book, a memoir about his years in Palm Beach and the many amazing stars with which he has worked, including Broadway-TV diva Faith Prince, with whom Rob shared a dishy virtual chat on YouTube earlier this month during a widely viewed CULTURE & COCKTAILS conversation hosted by the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County.
